The Fire Island is only two hours away from New York and it is considered to be the most popular beach community in the city. A little fact, people are arguing about the name’s origin. Some believe the name came from the old days where native Americans built fire around the island and on the other hand, some believe it gets its name from the large poison ivy that lives on the island.

To get to Fire Island people mostly take ferries from the outer coast of Long Island. However, there are vehicles on the island but they are mostly emergency vehicles. 7. The Palisades

New Haven is the home of the famous Yale University and it offers a lot in culture, architecture, food, and even entertainment. Along the coastline of New Haven, you’ll find a theater, lighthouse, and even a carousel. Some of the architecture in the city goes back to the 1700s and you can see the revolutionary war in the streets. In addition, there is an art district, a children’s museum, etc. From NY, it takes around an hour and a half to get there and it can be reached via car, train, or even bus.
